Highland Gardens Library
Cheryl Clark, Library Media Specialist
Mission:
The mission of Highland Gardens Library Media Center is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. This mission is accomplished: by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats; by providing instruction to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas; by working with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of individual students. Information Power: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs (1988), p.1
Guidelines for Checkouts:
Kindergarten: 1 book
First Grade: 2 books
Second and Third Grade: 3 books
Fourth Grade-Sixth Grade: 4 books
All books are checked out for 5 days and must be returned or renewed within the time frame. If the books are not returned or renewed, the book becomes overdue and the student will not be able to checkout any books until it is returned or paid for.
Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Books:
Students are responsible for lost or damaged books checked out of the library. When a book is overdue, students and their teachers are given a notification letter. The letter lists the title and price of the overdue book.
